“I
cutting around the edge” – omission
“don’t
want to eat skins” – missing determiners
“we
had some banana didn't we” and “you did just have some biscuits didn't you” –
tag questions. Used to encourage him to answer the question even though she
already knows the answer
“I
think I don’t” – said in the wrong tense. Imitating what he hears other people
saying
“I
think you don’t” – repeating what he has already said for positive
reinforcement
“frough”
– this mispronunciation may be a result of trying to imitate what he has heard others saying as they have pronounces the 'th' as an 'f'
“what’s
the lasagne” – over extension by category
“dose”
– fis phenomenon. Instead of pronouncing the word correctly, Zach has said the
word wrong as it’s easier for him to pronounce those sounds, so instead of ‘those’,
he has said ‘dose’
“star”
– by giving him praise, it encourages him to continue with what he had done or
said correctly
“you
did just have some biscuits didn't you? (1) what happened?” – closed/open
questions allows him to answer the question in a more descriptive way
Good. With "frough" you need to evaluate the likelihood of this interpretation by talking about accent and comparing my pronunciation. Then describe the likelihood that this is simplification through substitution because he is still developing the muscles to enunciate the full range of phonemes in the full range of combinations. Do some research into which phonemes commonly develop later and also link to any repair by the caregiver possibly being redundant as the 'fis' research suggests he is unaware of his own non-standard pronunciation. You can also quantify and notice patterns (A-grade skills) by looking at his range of non-standard pronunciations and noticing where he does and doesn't substitute or delete phonemes (or reduplicate, which he often does in his speech at home e.g. lellow, bresfast - and he used to say bwabwa for tractor; nanana is often used by children for banana but Z doesn't do that particular one). Links and patterns, evaluations and overview for the A!
